Green Grower’s is a 3 acre farm in Hau'ula, against the spectacular backdrop of the Koolau Mountains, that has been run by the Shintaku family. The farm specializes in vine-ripened toatoes.

It was built in the 1950's using the then-new farming technique of hydroponics. Graf Shintaku, who has been working on the farm since 1954, took over Green Growers in 1961. His son Terry grew up working on the farm and now runs the farm and all of its operations. Everything is done by hand, from pruning stems to processing and packaging. Tomatoes are packaged in trays with wrapping designed in the 1960s. Loose tomatoes are identified with the Green Growers label. The Shintaku's even make their own deliveries to their customers.

A typical day at the farm begins at 4 a.m., when Shintaku prepares for his first deliveries. The day winds up at about 8:30 p.m. The family works seven days a week. Their work pays off because they produce the best tasting tomatoes grown anywhere in large part because of the care given to the plants and the fact that they are grown outdoors in direct sunlight, not in greenhouses, vine-ripened and not harvested until they are completely red.
